Did Alexander Popov "invent" radio on Kronstadt? What is certain is that he was one of the first to actually succeed in creating wireless electronic communication, or radio. Based on the military island of Kronstadt, Popov's research was focused on developing a device to detect thunderstorms in advance. He was the first to create a ship-to-shore communication, and thus the first ever use of radio communications to help a vessel in distress.

A century after the invention of radio, Interconnection seeks to use a contemporary form of wireless communication, the Internet, to pay tribute to Popov by transmitting sound and visual material from Kronstadt to the rest of the world. This material was be picked up, mixed and broadcast live on Internet Radio.
